The Norton Police Department announced on its Facebook page that it had collected 34 pounds of prescription drugs Saturday as part of a national initiative to rid homes of expired or unused prescription drugs.

The National Drug Take-Back Day is sponsored by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to the DEA's website, "The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day took place on Saturday, October 26, 2013 and provided a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications."

Norton residents were allowed to drop-off drugs at the police station with no questions asked.
