Police are investigating the vandalization of Everett Leonard Park after members of Norton Parks and Recreation found the property in disarray last week.
Though for the most part people respect the park, it was vandalized in the past. As a result, Norton Parks and Recreation installed new cameras a few months ago to keep an eye on the new basketball hoops. Though the suspects put tape over the camera in the pavillion, they were caught on another one. Norton Police Department is in the process of reviewing the DVD to see if any of the suspects can be identified.
“I am really hopeful that we can find out who did this, and if it is a bunch of kids thinking it was something fun to do, that I can show them how their actions have affected others,” said Sheri Cohen, chairperson of Norton Parks and Recreation.

The suspects littered the property with beer cans, then kicked in the wood window into the office. According to Cohen, they proceeded to go through everything in the office and use the fire extinguisher, which then then stole. The suspects also stole a lifeguard rescue tube for the pool and stole a new grill from the shed.
“I have put countless hours as a volunteer over the last three years to make this a nice place for people to go to,” Cohen said. “I am really hoping that somewhere out there, somebody has heard something and will let me know so they can [be] held accountable.”
Several people have volunteered to help Cohen and the rest of the Parks and Recreation Department clean the mess up, but Cohen has not accepted it.
“I would like to see them clean it up - not me or members of my commission who work just as hard,” Cohen said.
