A Norton man who was allegedly was drunk Friday night when he blew a red light and slammed into an oncoming car—killing the driver—pleaded not guilty in court Monday.

Nicholas Salvo, 23, was arrested Saturday morning. The driver who died was David Munise, 63, of Raynham, the Sun Chronicle reported.

Authorities said they found a bottle of Bacardi rum and a bag of marijuana inside Salvo’s vehicle, according to the Chronicle.

Police said the crash happened on Route 140 at the intersection of Norfolk Street just before midnight.

An off-duty Mansfield firefighter witnessed the crash and said Salvo was traveling at a "high rate of speed" southbound on Route 140 when he ran a red light and slammed into Munise's vehicle.

Salvo was charged with motor vehicle homicide while drunk, reckless operation, speeding, failing to stop for a red light and a marked lanes violation.

Munise was driving to his job at the Shaw's at Erin’s Centre shopping plaza at the time of the crash, according to the Sun Chronicle.

THIS is whats wrong with america folks. Alchohol. And its a darn shame he is "possibly" facing only ONE year in prison for killing a man while intoxicated.! Because his uncle is a Norton selectman, he gets a free pass...SHAME I hope the son of the victim seeks further justification, this is so wrong on many levels. Rumors from friends he stole money from his work ( a bank) and would buy drugs and bragg about it, then he gets drunk and kills a man?? A criminal on the loose belongs behind bars. He was drunk still 2 days after the vehicular homicide ppl are saying. His mug shot even looks like a prsioner/criminal. that look in his eyes. pure evil.
