Norton Resident Flees Scene of Pole Hit and Run

Ryan Leeds, 21, was placed under arrest.

At 2 a.m. Friday, received reports of a motor vehicle that struck a utility pole on Oak Street. 

The operator, Ryan Leeds of Norton, was not injured in the crash but was arrested.

The dispatcher was informed by a witness that the vehicle, after striking the utility pole, had fled the scene, traveling south on Oak Street. Patrolman Michael McKenney observed the vehicle parked on Oak Street south of the scene. Leeds, 21, was sitting in the vehicle talking on a cell phone.

Leeds was placed under arrest and transported to the Norton police station. National Grid was notified and responded to repair the damage to the utility pole.

Leeds was transported to the Attleboro District Court today for arraignment.  He is charged by Norton Police with operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehilce, possession of a Class B substance (Percocet), operation of a motor vehicle with an open container of alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
