Norton Appoints New Fire Captain Alvin Fuller

The Norton Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to accept Alvin Fuller as Norton’s newest Fire Captain.
Fire Chief Paul Schleicher said Fuller was one only 114 applicants in the state who passed the captaincy exam.
“It was a killer exam,” he said. “That exam is taken from about a dozen encyclopedia-sized books, where they can take anything out they want for the test.”
Schleicher said there were probably thousands of applicants in the state who took the exam and that Fuller not only passed, but also did well on the test.
“He put in the effort,” he said. “About 25 percent of our department took the test, and most of them came that close to passing.”
Schleicher said Fuller has been with the department for many years and has lived in Norton all his life.
“He’s been a very valuable asset for us, he’s saved us a lot of money with his mechanical skills over the years,” he said. “I feel confident Alvin will make an outstanding captain.”
