Maryland Construction Company Puts a Hold on Norton Jail Cells

Norton Town Hall needed meeting rooms and it didn't need jail cells. That's why the town auctioned off jails cells that have remained vacant since the early 2000s when the police station was moved, according to an ABC-6 report.

The town put the eight cells, which is included as one unit, on the GovDeal Auction Services, an outline auction site. After nearly 2,500 bids, the jail cells sold for more than $1,000 as a construction company out of Winchester, MD. won the bidding. They have until Saturday to pick up them up.

"We've outgrown the space upstairs," said town manager Michael Yunits in the ABC-6. "We don't have any meeting rooms in the town hall to we are trying to utilize what we can down here."
