First Snow Causes Power Outages

October snowfall will not cancel Halloween parade.

The first snowfall of the season brought down approximately 2 inches of the white stuff, along with a few tree limbs.

On Oak Street, a limb fell on a wire, causing the street to be closed. The Larson Farm area is without power at this time. National Grid is reporting 1,854 outages, with no estimated time of restoration.

The police department didn’t report any storm-related motor vehicle incidents.

“As of midnight, there were no real accidents,” said Norton Police Lieutenant Todd Jackson.

Norton Fire Department, however, aided Mansfield in a three-alarm fire on Chauncy Street. Taunton Fire Department covered the Norton station.

The weather has not dampened the mood of Halloween parade goers, as the event is taking place at noon, rain, wind or snow.
