Area Fire, Police Invited to Pull Trucks in Support of Special Olympics

Event to take place Sept. 29 at Comcast Center.

Area police and fire departments will show off their strength in a fire truck pull to support the Massachusetts Special Olympics Sept. 29.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run Committee will be hosting the first fire truck pull at the Comcast Center in Mansfield Saturday, Sept. 29. Teams of 10 to 12 members will join together to pull two different fire trucks of differing weights. 

Teams from all walks of life are encouraged to join in. There are three different categories: The First Responder Category will have police, fire, EMS, and Military battling against each other to see who the top dog. There is also a Corporate/Civic category where employees and their families or members of a local civic group can join together to compete against each other. And finally, all the area gyms and fitness centers are encouraged to form a team and fight for the first place trophy to proudly show off.

"We envision friends and families and co-workers coming together for a fun afternoon that supports some amazing Special Olympians," said event organizer and retired Attleboro Police Chief, Richard Pierce. 

Each team is encouraged to raise $500 to participate in the event. All participants will receive a Fire Truck Pull event t-shirt. Local Special Olympians will be on hand to help cheer on the teams and award the winners their trophies. Teams are encouraged to find sponsorships from businesses or corporations for their team. All monies raised at this event will be going directly to Massachusetts Special Olympics.
