Police: Norton Man Drunk in Fatal Crash

Nicholas Salvo allegedly killed a 63-year-old Raynham man.

A Norton man who was allegedly was drunk Friday night when he blew a red light and slammed into an oncoming car—killing the driver—was due in court Monday.

Nicholas Salvo, 23, was arrested Saturday morning. He was treated and released from Rhode Island Hospital. He was being held on $10,000 bail pending an arraignment.

Police said the crash happened on Route 140 at the intersection of Norfolk Street just before midnight.

An off-duty Mansfield firefighter witnessed the crash and said Salvo was traveling at a "high rate of speed" southbound on Route 140 when he ran a red light and slammed into a vehicle driven by a 63-year-old Raynham man.

The Raynham man was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His identity was not immediately released.

Salvo was charged with motor vehicle homicide while drunk, reckless operation, speeding, failing to stop for a red light and a marked lanes violation.
