Accidents and Fraud in Norton Police Log: July 17 - 21

The following information was supplied by Norton Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Tuesday, July 17
8:50 a.m.: Charlotte Avenue, larceny. Caller reports larceny of fishing poles from back of a pickup.
9:47 a.m.: Taunton Avenue, motor vehicle accident.
3:27 p.m.: Carpenter Road, harassment/threats. Reporting party into station reporting her ex-boyfriend came to house to get some belongings and he threatened her.  
6:57 p.m.: Dean Street, assisted Attleboro Police Department in lookout for male runaway from a Start Program for troubled youths. Family has called and reports that they are with subject on West Main St. in Norton.
8:28 p.m.: Hawthorne Road, assisted Norton Fire Department for house fire. Neighbor reports house fire behind his residence, unsure if there is someone in the house. Easton, Attleboro and Mansfield assisted. Fire has been knocked down, all crews taking a rehabilitation break at this time.  Overhaul is complete, cleaning up.
8:48 a.m.: Kayak Trail, fraud/embezzlement. Walk-in reporting possible internet scam involving a dress for sale. Woman purchasing dress sent money for approximately $1,000 over and asked for difference to be sent back Western Union.  Walk-in notified Police Department and did not cash check.
11:16 p.m.: W. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Caller reports motor vehicle versus pole. No injury. Verizon to check pole.

Wednesday, July 18
7:58 a.m.: John Scott Boulevard, suspicious activity. Caller reports a young boy with a bicycle trying to flag people down. Area search negative.
9:10 a.m.: W. Main Street, general disturbance. Employee reports individuals with political signs interfering with traffic into and out of the lot. Sergeant Goodwin reports there are people with signs, but they are not blocking traffic. Spoke to manager and he was advised.
12:09 p.m.: Old Colony Road, suspicious condition. Walk-in reporting a male laying on the side of the road near Old Colony Nursing Home. Area search negative.
5:42 p.m.: Elm Street, fraud/embezzlement. Walk-in reporting credit card fraud.

Thursday, July 19
11:23 a.m.: Eisenhower Drive, harassment/threats. Walk-in reporting harassment with male.
12:00 p.m.: W. Main Street, motor vehicle accident.
3:56 p.m.: E. Main Street, sex offense.
4:48 p.m.: W. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Vehicle into woods with minor damage. Car driven out of embankment.
5:24 p.m.: W. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Caller reports motor vehicle accident with minor property damage. Minimal damage to vehicles and no injuries.
6:01 p.m.: W. Main Street, identity theft. Caller reports victim of identity theft. Credit card account was opened at a store, and a gift card was immediately purchased. Caller is filling a identity theft report.
9:32 p.m.: Reservoir Street, domestic disturbance.
11:34 p.m.: Ware Street, Mansfield. Police arrested Edward L. Schillberg Jr., 34, of Ware Street, Mansfield, and charged him with assault and battery and less than $250 in malicious destruction of property.

Friday, July 20
7:17 a.m.: Mansfield Avenue, animal incident. Two geese struck by vehicle, backed up traffic. One goose put down.
12:28 p.m.: E. Main Street, trespassing.
2:11 p.m.: S. Worcester Street, annoying phone calls. Walk-in reporting harassing phone calls. She was advised to get a harassment prevention order from Attleboro District Court.
2:41 p.m.: Mansfield Avenue, motor vehicle accident.
3:30 p.m.: Laurel Road, assault. Walk-in reporting past assault between himself and his girlfriend’s father. Advised he would need to go to the courthouse to take out charges.
3:38 p.m.: W. Main Street, motor vehicle accident. Caller reports two-car collision in front of Honey Dew Donuts. No reported injuries. One vehicle leaving under own power, one vehicle calling AAA.
8:57 p.m.: Faith Way, motor vehicle theft. Caller reports that her car was stolen, possibly by another resident of Faith Way. She did not want to see an officer at this time. She is attempting to retrieve the vehicle on her own.
9:44 p.m.: Bay Road, assisted Easton Police Department with lookout for suicidal male. Male has syringes loaded with insulin. Area search negative.

Saturday, July 21
1:37 a.m.: Falls Road, domestic disturbance.
1:56 a.m.: N. Lakeview Road, domestic disturbance.
2:14 a.m.: N. Lakeview Road. Police arrested Michael W. Doyle, 25, of N. Lakeview Road, and charged him with assault and battery.
3:35 a.m.: W. Main Street, vandalism. Mailbox on ground.
3:55 p.m.: Barrows Street, suspicious condition. Caller reports male calling her telling her she won a new Mercedes and that she needed to meet him at Rite Aid in Taunton with $150 to obtain the car.  She wanted this information logged.
8:52 p.m.: Parker Court, suspicious condition. Caller reports hearing gunshots in the Dean Street area. Another area resident heard the noise as well but thought they were fireworks. Area search negative.
8:12 p.m.: Barrows Street, assisted Norton Fire Department. Caller reports 42-year-old brother has been drinking and has stopped breathing.  Transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital.
10:26 p.m.: Keene Way, general disturbance. Caller reporting noise complaint, neighbors have a band playing. Advised of no noise ordinances in town.
10:37 p.m.: Reservoir Street, general disturbance. Walk-n complains of his neighbors having a large party. Residents spoken to, they are going to turn it down.
10:46 p.m.: Keene Way, general disturbance. Very irate caller again reporting a loud party. Police responded, other than three boys playing basketball, all quiet.
