NORTON LANCERS VARSITY FOOTBALL UPDATE

LANCERS HOLD OFF THE SACHEMS at HOME

            With beautiful weather in the air tonight, the Norton High School varsity football Lancers team opened Adams Field for their home opener for the 2013 Season with a date against the Middleboro Sachems and in the 1st quarter on the Opening Drive, the sachems go for it on 4th and 5 and the Lancers denied them and on the final play of the1st quarter for the Lancers, Michael Ready broke wide open the Middleboro defense for a gain of 20 yards and the 1st quarter was a scorless battle between the Lancers and the Sachems and in the 2nd quarter, the Lancers got on the board with a touchdown and a 2 point conversion with 8:14 in the 2nd quarter to make it 8-0 and seconds later the Lancers threw in a little trickery as they went for the onside kick and it paid off and  at 7:31 of the 2nd quarter, Justin Ireland had the luck of the Irish as he ran into the end zone for a 30 yard TD and the tra point and the Lancers extend their lead to 15 to 0  and the Middleboro Sachems got on the board with a Cody DeBias passed to L.G Barber for a TD and an extra point and Norton’s lead is trimmed to 15-7 and Michael Ready broke the Middleboro D for a good gain on 3rd and 8 and that led to a 42-yard TD strike from Michael Ready to Matt Hines to make it 21-7 Lancers and tack on an extra point to make it 22-7 Lancers at the halftime break and in the third quarter, the Sachems are driving down the field on a 2nd and 4 at the Lancer 11 and that’s when the Lancers swarmed the Sachems like purple and white bumblebees swarming around the Sachem offense and forced a fumble and recovered it in their own territory and Late in the 3rd quarter and the Sachems were going for it on 4th and 1 at the 24 and the Lancers stuffed them and got the Sachems to turn the ball over on downs and the 4th quarter and early on in the 4th quarter, the Lancers tacked on two first downs in a row on the drive but the Sachems feisty defense took over and forced the Lancers to punt and the Sachems capitalized on a 67-yard Touchdown by Evan Hart to make it 22-13 and netted the extra point to make it 22-14 Lancers with 6:56 left in the 4th and the Lancers tried to get a 1st down and milk that clock but the Sachems Defense played them tough into a 3rd and out and the Sachems got a fake punt on 4th and 7 at the 28 and it paid off with a 20 yard dash by Brandon Jackson and Middleboro scored a 52 yard TD run to make it a 22 to 20 Lancer lead and they went for 2 to tie the game and the Lancer D put a wall on the goal line and avoided the Sachems from going in to tie and the Sachems onside kick failed as Zack Feeney recovered the ball and the Lancers tried to get a first down and milk the clock, but the Sachem defense hung tough and forced the Lancers to another 3 and out and the Sachems had to march 81 yards with 1:09 left in the clock to two ways and either get a FG or a TD to win, so they had two ways that they could have won the ball game, but the Lancer D hung tough and forced the Sachems to turn the ball over as the Norton Lancers varsity football team held on for a nailbiting 22-20 victory over the Middleboro Sachems at Adams Field tonight.
