LANCERS RUN INTO THE APPONEQUET BUZZSAW

On a springlike night in the First of November, 2013 at Adams Field in Norton High School, The Norton Lancers and the Apponequet Lakers square off in the MIAA Division 4 South Quarterfinals round and everyone had their Lancer Pride and the action starts in the 1st quarter, the Lancers get the coin toss and elected to receive and on the kickoff, Matt Hines went on the ketchup trail and set up shop at the Apponequet 32, but the Lancers had no choice to go for it on 4th and 1 and Brad Wry got the first down and the Laker defense was stingy forcing the Lancers to go for it on 4th and 1 at the Apponequet 11 and it paid off with a big way as Matt Hines rushed it for a Lancer TV and tack on the XP to make it 7-0 LANCERS and Apponequet’s 1st crack at the ball on offense and on the 1st drive at the 34 and the Lancers D proved the Laker D tough as nails and the Lakers somehow got a first down and Cameron Costa picked up and their first down for Aponequet and Matthew Michael picked up another first down at the Norton 11 and Westin Cohen got the ball close to the goaline and one play later, Cohen punched it in for a 1-yard TD and the XP is good as the Lakers even the score at 7-7 a piece with 3:13 and the Lancers 2nd drive and the Lancers set up shop at the Norton 32 and Michael Ready ran it for 12 yards to the 44 and ready to Wry passed for 7 yards and 2nd and 3 at the Laker 48 and Miles McAlpine gets a first down, but a play later, a silly intentional grounding call And a false start sets up 3rd and 21 at the Lancer 45.
2nd quarter
The Lancers were forced to punt it away after silly penalties in that drive dipped them in and Apponequet setting up shop at the 15 and the Lancers D held the Lakers in check the 1st two possessions, but Cameron Costa sprinted the ball for a gain of 31 yards setting up a 1st and 10 at the Lancers 48 and Westin Cohen gets another first down at the Lancer 30 and Troy Manfield gets another Apponequet first and 10 at the Lancer 4 and Apponequet got a TD from Matthew Michel got a TD and XP good as the Lakers lead the Lancers 14-7 and the Lancers set up shop at the 36 and Matt Hines ran for 6 at the 42 and on 3rd and 3 att the 42, the Lancers got it just shy at the 45 and on 4th and 1 the Lancers went for it and paid it off with a Matt Hines 1st down at the Laker 38 and Hines got a 38 yard pass one play later from Michael Ready for a TD and XP good as the Lancers even the score at 14-14 at 5:29 of the 2nd quarter and on the ensuing kickoff, the Lancers pulled up a trick play up their sleeve with an onside kick and it worked with Hines recovering the ball setting up the Lancers at the Lakers 39 and on 3rd and 1, the momentum changer of the game came on the play as Brandon Cooney picked off Ready and sped 70 yards for a Interception Return for a TD and the XP is good and the Lakers retook the lead at 21-14 with 4:21 left in the 2nd quarter and the Lancers got the ball at the 31 and Hines got a couple on the play for 3 yards and the Lakers defense held them for a loss and 3rd and 8, the Lakers defense held them at bay and Cory Lewis got the Ball for 39 and another Apponequet 1st down and the Lakers picked up another 1st down and Westin Cohen got another 1st down at the Lancer 5 and Matthew Michel got a TD and the XP is good as the Lakers go into the Halftime Break leading 28-14.
3rd quarter
The Lakers got the ball to start the 3rd quarter with Matthew Michel a good kick return and Westin Cohen scored a 56 yard TD and XP is good as the Lakers now lead it 35-14 and the Lancers finding answers to cut into this lead and McAlpine got some yards and the Lancers picking up a 1st down on 3rd and 8 and Jake Eberle got a 1st and 10 at the 45 and Michael Ready did a QB Sneak for 23 yards and a Lancers 1st down and ready to Wry for 20 yards at the Laker 2 but came at a heavy price as Michael Ready got hurt and the Lakers D held them tough through 2 possessions and setting up 3rd and 5 at the Laker 5 and the Laker D was a brick wall and the Lancers had no choice to go for it on 4th down and the Lakers intercepted the ball at the end zone and the Lakers Offense was denied by the Lancers Defense on two possessions and the Lancers D woke up and forced the Lakers to go for it on 4th and 1 and got the first down as the Lakers continued to rack up a 1st down at the Lancer 45 and the Lakers continue to milk the clock and Cohen got a 1st and 10 at the Lancer 10 and Westin Cohen got another TD and XP good and the Lakers lead it 42-14 and the Lancers setting up shop at 16 and got a 1st down, but the Laker D were tough and the Lancers on 3rd and 14 and Norbeck got a 1st down at the Lancer 39.
4th quarter
The Lancers showing no quit in the tank against a powerful Apponequet defense, but the Lancers every time they tried to do something on offense with the ball, the Laker D hung tough and the Lancers on 4th and 15 were forced to punt and the Lancers trying to figure out the Laker firepower team, but the Laker Offense picked up a 1st down and Matthew Michel picked up a 2nd and 2 at the 48 and Michel got another 1st down and the Lakers continued to pick up a 1st down and milk that clock on the Lancer D and the Lakers Offense continued on that drive picking up a first down and milking that clock and Nanfield got a1st down at the Lancers 20 and the Lakers continued to gain yards and mik that clock as the Lakers came into Adams Field and shock and stun the Norton Lancers 42-14 as the Lancers will have to play in the consolation game and the Lakers are moving on and despite the Loss, the Lancers football club showed heart and pride and soul and determination during the game and the Lancers fans showed pure class and good sportsmanship and pure pride including myself as despite the outcome, I showed my Purple and White colors all the way as I showed my LANCER PRIDE tonight despite the Lancers loss.
