My Two Cents with Peter J. Wiggins: The End of a Cheap Era in Building #19

MY TWO CENTS WITH PETER J. WIGGINS
The END OF A CHEAP ERA in Building #19

Tonight, I just found out that the
Building #19 discount chain that was started in the Hingham Shipyard by Jerry Ellis in 1964 has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy resulting in the closing of all 10 stores around the era and Building #19 is best known for it’s very good cheap bargains on everything to crazy promotional gimmicks and advertisements and all sorts of things and Jerry Ellis was a genius in his company and I remember going to the Norwood location with my mom when I was young and I was surprised and awestruck by all the things that Building #19 had for sale ranging from all sorts of things from clothes and books and all sorts of merchandise that they had for sale and Building #19 will go the way of other Massachusetts chains that are not in existence anymore ranging from Filene’s, Jordan Marsh, Child World, Ames, Caldor, Zayre, Porteus, W.T Grant, Mammoth Mart, Purity Supreme, Woolworth’s, Lechmere and Grossmans as Building #19 will soon join the Department Stores of the Past as Building #19 will be closing all 10 stores and remember the days that you would get a big bargain at all stores that represent local business and another discount store, Spag’s in Shrewsbury was similar to that and now it is given way to big giant stores like Wal-Mart, Target and Home Depot.

Mr. Jerry Ellis, thanks for all the memories and all the cheap bargains that you provided for Building #19
