Find out what's happening in Nortonwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

1st quarter

With a great crowd showing their Purple and White and with the Norton Pop Warner Football in attendance at Adams Field, The Lancers’ Justin Ireland returned the ball on the opening kickoff for a sizable gain to the Lancer 25 and on the opening drive for the Lancers, Brad Wry gets a first down on the Lancer 35 and a little more and a few plays later, Michael Ready to Brad Wry for a gain of 48 on the Dover-Sherborn 10 and a few plays later, Brad Wry punched it in from 15 yards and a Lancer TD and they went for the 2-point conversion, but failed as the Lancers went on the board first with 7:27 in the 1st quarter, up 6-0 and on the Dover-Sherborn Raiders, the ball went right through the legs of a Raider player as the Lancers pinned the Raiders at their own 5 yard line and on D’s first possession with the ball, the Lancers forced them to punt, but the Lancers fumbled the slippery ball giving the Raiders a few more cracks at the ball, but Norton forced another 3 and out and on 4th down, D-S went for it and it paid off  with another 1st down, but on the next play, the Lancers forced a fumble and recovered the ball and on that drive, Matt Hines picked up a nice gain setting up 1st and goal for the Lancers at the D-S 9 and Justin Ireland went on with the luck of the Irish as he ran into the end zone for a Lancers TD and the 2 point conversion racked on to the scoreboard as the Norton Lancers extend their lead on the Raiders to 14-0 with 1:20 left in the 1st quarter and then Matt Hines intercepted a pass and returned it to the end zone for a Lancer TD and extra point no good as the Lancers wrapped up a dominant 1st quarter with a 20-0 led on the Dover-Sherborn Raiders.

2nd quarter

The 2nd quarter began with D-S driving down the field and all of a sudden trying to get their mojo back picking up a couple of first downs , bu the Norton “D” stayed stingy as they swarmed the Raider QB for a loss, forcing the Raiders to go for it on 4th down and it paid off on a Chris Minor TD reception as the Raiders trim the Lancers lead to 20 to 7 with 7:41 to go in the quarter and Matt Hines went on the Ketchup trail and he breezed through the Raider defense for a gain of 43 yards and a Lancer 1st down at the D-S 28 and McAlpine went to the 15 for a gain of 13 and another Lancer first down and a few plays later, Michael Ready was sure ready for the ball and marched into the end zone for another TD and a 2 point conversion to make it 28-7 Lancers and the Lancers defense forced the Raiders to punt the ball and seconds later at 2:54 left in the quarter, Brad Wry  chugged through the Raider defense for a 55 yard TD run and added on an extra point to make it 35-7 Lancers and the Raiders started again to get their mojo back as Chris Minor made a big gain that led to a Dover-Sherborn TD and an extra point as the Lancers went into the halftime break with a comfortable 35-14 margin.

3rd quarter

The 3rd quarter began with D-S setting up shop at the 42 and Rogers Boylan went for it on 4th down and it paid off for a first down and the Raiders racked up another first down and the Raiders drove into Lancer territory and Minor caught another pass for the Raiders first down at the Norton 1 and Dan Moon punched it into the end zone as the Raiders net the TD and missed the extra point as the Lancers lead was trimmed to 35-20 by the feisty Raiders and the Lancers got the ball holding on to a comfortable margin and the drive and Michael Ready passed to Matt Hines again for a 51-yard TD pass and tack on an Extra Point to make it 42 to 20 Lancers and the Lancer D late in the 3rd quarter was stingiest at it’s finest as Derek Flemming batted down the ball and the Lancers denied them again on 4th down.

4th quarter

The Lancers opened the quarter with a Brad Wry dash to the End Zone for a TD and Hines again dashed 21 yards for a Norton TD and  added on an extra point to make it 49-20 Lancers and Dover-Sherborn Raiders trying to show some fight in them, down by 129 and they couldn’t buy a break as the Lancer “D” kept them in check and the Raiders had no choice to go for it on 4th down and Jack Ledbetter picked it off for an interception and the Lancers on the drive, Tim Crogan dashed for a Norton first down in Raider Territory and the Lancers looking to chew time off the clock and went for it on n 4th down ad 4 at the DS-18 and iot paid off with an Andrew Runeri rush for a 1st down and the Lancers continued to milk that clock right down to the double-zero as the Norton Lancers led them to an impressive 49-20 victory over the Dover-Sherborn Raiders- HOW BOUT’ THEM LANCERS!!!!
