LANCERS VARSITY FOOTBALL UPDATE

LANCERS BREEZE THROUGH THE MOHAWKS

            On a chilly night at Adams Field in Norton on Senior Night, the Norton Lancers took to the field against the Millis Mohawks and in the 1st quarter, Millis won the coin toss and got the ball first and on the First Drive, Chris Ell picked up a 1st down for a gain of 19 yards and after the play and Millis decided to go for it on 4th and 1 and it paid off with Chris Ell for a f1st down and the Lancers, Myles McAlpine jumped up and broke up a Millis play forcing the Mohawks to punt and that set up the Lancers 1st and 10 on the 20 for the first drive for the Lancers and Derek Fleming picked up 8 with a run, but Michael Ready got stuffed for a loss and Jake Eberle racked up 7 yards for a 1st down on the Lancers 34 and Matt Hines picked up 9 yards and the Mohawks D stuffed Brad Wry bringing up 3rd and 1 at the Norton 43 and Wry on the next play picked up another 1st down for the Lancers and few plays later, Matt Hines went on the Ketchup trail and breezed through the Mohawk D for 37 yards on the play and 11 more yards to the Millis 5 and the Lancers and the Mohawks went into the end of the 1st quarter, deadlocked at 0-0 a piece.  

            2nd QUARTER

            After a scoreless first quarter and Norton getting a good drive going, Matt Hines punched it into the end zone for a 4 yard run for a TD and the extra point failed and that gave the Lancers a 6-0 lead and Millis got the ball and on the drive, the Lancer “D” held the Mohawks D flat like a pancake and Millis went for it on 4th down again and the Mohawks instead of going for it on 4th down, played it safe by punting the ball and on the Lancers 2nd drive which started at the 22, and Mike Ready netted 7 yards to the 29 and on 3rd and 2 at the 30, and the Lancers’ Brad Wry picked up a 1st down and the Stingy Millis D put Brady Wry for a loss and Jake Eberle got 10 yards setting up 3rd and 3 at the 40 and Ready to Eberle netted a 1st down at the Norton 46 and Ready to Eberle for 21 yards for a Lancer 1st down at the Millis 30 and two plays later, Mike Ready chugged through the Mohawk D for a 27 yard run for the TD and extra point good giving the Norton Lancers a 13-0 lead and on the ensuing kickoff, Chris Ell thought he had returned the kick return for a TD for the Mohawks, but a penalty erased it and instead of the TD, the Mohawks set up shop at t he 15 and the Lancers Stingy D swarmed the Mohawk offense like a purple-and-white bumblebee and on 3rd down, Matt Hines picked off the Ball and setting the Lancers in excellent field position at the Millis Mohawk 8, but a Stingy Mohawk D stymied the Lancers and on 4th down and 8 at the 8, The Lancers decided to kick a field goal and the ball went through the uprights and good extending the Lancers lead to 16-0 with 12:33 left in the Half and the Mohawks set up shop at the 30 and Millis and Shawn Herterman got a 1st down at the 48 and Millis put a good drive and on 3rd down and Chris Ell picked up a 1st down for the Mohawks at the Lancer 30 and the Lancer D standed tall to the challenge forcing 3 in completions in a row and Lancers topped Millis again on 4th down as the Lancers went into the halftime break leading the Millis Mohawks, 16-0

            3rd quarter

            The Lancers got the ball to start the quarter and Myles McAlpine put on his skies and skied his way through the Mohawk Defense to the Mohawk 15 to pick up another 1st down, but the Feisty Mohawk D stuffed the Lancers the Next plays forcing the Lancers to go for it on 4th down and it failed and the Mohawks drive stopped by the Lancer D forcing the Mohawks to punt the ball setting up the Lancers at their own 47 and Matt Hines went on a ketchup trail sprinting 53 yards for a TD and extra point good extending the Lancers lead to 23-0 with 6:24 in the 3rd quarter and the Mohawks got the ball at the 40 and the desperate Mohawks tried to get a drive going by picking up a 1st down and Millis finally had something going on the drive and Chris Ell’s ball running for the Mohawks and the Lancer D standed up to the Challenge by Stuffing the Mohawks bringing up 3rd and 5 and the Mohawks got a 1st down and the Mohawks got a TD and they tried for two and faield as the Lancers lead is trimmed to 23-6 and the Lancers went to work at the 35 and the Lancers trying to get positive yardage as they milked the clock to zero at the 3rd quarter.

            4th quarter

            The Lancers opening play on 3rd and 7 on the Norton 38 and couldn’t convert it forcing the Lancers to punt pinning the Mohawks at the 38 and the Mohawks on 3rd and 5 at the 43 were stuffed by the Lancers D led my Mike Travers on the tackle and Millis went for it on 4th down and it paid off with a Tyler Angel catch for a  1st down on the Lancer 40, but George Reese stuffed the Mohawks on the next play and the Lancers forced a fumble and recovered the ball and the Lancer offense trying to gain yards and milk the clock as possible as McAlpine netted 7 yards to the 47 and netted a 1st down on the next drive and Matt Hines racked up another 1st down for the Lancers in Millis Territory and Brad Wry racked up another 1st down on the 27 and the Lancers continued to milk the clock and Brad Wry picks up a 1st down at the Lancer 12 and the more positive yardage the Lancers gained, the more the clock they eaten up and Brad Wry ran it in for a 4-yard TD with 2:59 left and Extra point no good and the lancers are in good shape for a victory with a 29-6 lead and meanwhile the Mohawks on a meaningless drive in the final 2:51 and the ran backwards on one plat and forwards on the next play for a 1st down and backwards on the Next play by A STINGY Lancer D and on the final play of the game, Brad Wry picked off a pass in the end zone for a interception and ran the clock down to double-0 as the Norton Lancers defeat the Millis Mohawks at Adams Field in Norton, 29-6.
