Norton, Massachusetts: A Century Ago This Week

The Tavern Whist Club, composed of ladies from Taunton, Foxborough, Mansfield and Norton, will hold their quarterly social at the Tavern, in Mansfield Tuesday afternoon.  October 31, Mrs. J.F. Hartshorn and Mrs. H.F. Gray of Foxborough will be the hostesses.

John Prouty, a former owner of the local grocery store, now of Spencer, was in town yesterday calling on friends.

Mrs. Lewis Deane has had steam heat installed in her residence, on Pine Street.

Mrs. Ann Larson, of Falmouth, is a guest of her daughter, Mrs. P.A. Dean.

F. Barber is in town as a representative of the N.K. Fairbanks Company, demonstrating their goods.

This evening occurs the concert at the Unitarian Church by Miss Lillian Whitman, for the benefit of the Church Aid Alliance.

Tomorrow, the ladies of the Church Aid Alliance will hold an all day sewing bee at the .

Thomas Rosso, of Brooklyn, N.H. was in town on business, yesterday.

A dance and social will be conducted at Makepeace Hall, this evening, by two popular local young men.

The Junior Alliance will hold its October meeting, at the home of Misses Ruth and Mary Walker, Friday evening.  It will take the form of an indoor picnic.

E.F. Belcher is spending a few days with relatives in Hollis, N.H.

At the harvest supper to be given by the ladies of the Wednesday evening, October 25th, the gentleman will serve the supper.

There will be a meeting of the general committee connected with the town’s recent 200th anniversary on Saturday evening.

Frank P. Tew of Taunton was in town on business yesterday.

Mr. and Mrs. Albanus Claflin of Attleboro, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Snow Sr. of yesterday.

Jared Wood, of Mansfield, was in town on business yesterday.

Archie Gegenheimer, of Athol was a guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William C. Gegenheimer, over Sunday.

Mrs. Frederick Armstrong is confined to her home by illness.

Miss Eunice Williams, of Barrowsville, was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. William C. Gegenheimer in Meadowbrook, Sunday.

The two cider mills in town are unusually busy, great quantities of apples are being brought in.

The Junior Alliance will hold their indoor picnic on Friday evening in the church vestry.
