Obituary: Susan A. Mims

Susan Mims, 76, of Norton, passed away Dec. 14, 2012.

Susan A. (Hall) Mims, 76, of Norton, passed away in her home surrounded by her family Friday, Dec. 14, 2012.

She was the wife of John Bryan Mims, to whom she was wed April 24, 1965 in New York City. Born in Dunkirk, N.Y. May 18, 1936, she was daughter of the late Brown and Anne (Chace) Hall.

Susan was raised in Unadilla, N.Y. She was a graduate of Lake Erie College for Women in Painesville, Ohio, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in French, and where she also received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach in France.

A resident of Norton for the past 47 years, Mrs. Mims was the chief financial officer for her husband’s former business, Bryan Manufacturing, Inc. in Norton. Prior to living in Norton, she was a French teacher at Irvington on the Hudson High School in New York.

Susan was a member and played active roles in the Norton Land Preservation Society, the Norton Historical Society, the Canoe River Aquifer Committee and served as a board member at North Easton Savings Bank.

She treasured the many summers spent at their family home in Marion. Susan’s other interests included attending the symphony, bird watching, gardening, listening to classical music, crossword puzzles and reading. She also enjoyed visiting Boston and New York City along with vacationing in St. Kitts, Wisc.

In addition to her husband of 47 years, she is survived by her daughters Margot M. Ross and her husband Mark of Boston, Ashley M. Ware and her husband Brooks of Concord and Lisa M. Carpenter and her husband Steve of Washington, D.C.; her grandchildren Bennett Ware and Nicholas Ware.

A memorial service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 12th at 3 p.m. in the Trinitarian Congregational Church, E. Main and Pine Streets, Norton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Massachusetts General Hospital Pappas Center for Neuro-Oncology.
