Obituary: John T. Ryan Sr.

John Ryan Sr., 62, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.

John T. ”Jack” Ryan Sr., 62, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013 at the Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island in Providence.

He was the husband of Jerilyn C. “Jeri” (Essex) Ryan to whom he was wed for the past 34 years.

Born in Boston on April 12, 1950, he was son of Virginia (Jones) Ryan of Carver and the late John W. Ryan. Jack grew up in the South Boston and Hyde Park sections of Boston and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. A resident of Norton for the past three years, Jack had formerly resided for over 25 years in Mansfield.

For the past 20 years, Mr. Ryan was employed as an EMT at the American Medical Response Ambulance Co. in Brockton. He was also proud of his affiliation as part of the security team at the Kraft family suite at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.

One of his greatest passions in life was that of being a corvette owner and enthusiast. He was a member of the Eastern Massachusetts Corvette Club in Walpole and enjoyed attending area car shows. His other interests included playing guitar. Jack was an avid New England Patriots fan.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children John T. Ryan Jr. of Vermont, David M. Ryan of Georgia, Michelle E. Ryan of Vermont, Kristy Ryan of Vermont, Kelly M. (Ryan) Westercamp and her husband Greg of Virginia and Sean P. Ryan of Norton; his grandchildren Jennah Ryan, Breanne Corse and Noah Ryan; and his former wife Elaine Bennett of Vermont.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a service in celebration of Jack’s life Saturday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 N. Main St., Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home prior to the services beginning at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Jack’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Officer David M. Petzold Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 223, Center Valley, PA 18034.
