Obituary: Eleanor G. Turnbull

Eleanor Turnbull, 86, of Mansfield, passed away Feb. 15, 2013.

Eleanor G. (McGrath) Turnbull, 86, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton.

She was the wife of the late Augustine P. “Gus” Turnbull who died May 17, 2012 and to whom she was wed April 3, 1970.

Born in Boston Oct. 10, 1926, she was daughter of the late Thomas P. and Helen M. (Lonergan) McGrath. She grew up in the Brighton section of Boston and was a graduate of Brighton High School.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Turnbull had worked as a receptionist at General Electric in Newton for 20 years. She had made her home in Mansfield since 1974 and was an active communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, where served as a former CCD teacher.

Eleanor’s other community involvements included being a former volunteer at the Mansfield Soup Kitchen. She enjoyed traveling and was a former member of the Live Y’ers. Her favorite times by far were those spent with her family and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Aileen Turnbull and her husband Michael Reardon of Mansfield; her two granddaughters; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Shields, Patricia Mead and Teresa, Richard, Thomas, Lawrence and William McGrath. 

Her Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St., Mansfield. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield. Visitation was held at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.

In lieu of flowers, Eleanor’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02110.
