Obituary: Edmund Cady

Edmund Cady, 89, of Norton, formerly of Wrentham, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 8, 2012 at Morton Hospital in Taunton.

He was the husband of the late Marilyn M. (Woodis) Cady, to whom he was wed for 61 years at the time of her death on Aug. 16, 2008.

Born in Lexington on May 17, 1923, he was a son of the late Robert, Sr. and Evelyn (Burt) Cady. He grew up in Lexington and was educated in Lexington Public Schools.

During WWII, Ed faithfully served his country in the United States Army. He was a tank commander in the 4th Armored Tank Division and was honorably discharged from the service on October 21, 1946 with rank of sergeant.

Mr. Cady was a retired custodian having worked for five years at Norton Police Department. He had formerly worked as a custodian at Codex Co. in Mansfield and for over 25 years was a truck driver at H.F. Davis Tractor in Boston and Southboro.

A resident of Norton for the past 22 years, he had formerly resided in Wrentham. Ed was a member and past commander of the Lexington Minutemen. He was also a member of the Blue Lodge A. & F.M. Masonic Lodge and the Simon W. Robinson Lodge, both in Lexington and St. James Masonic Lodge in Mansfield.

Mr. Cady was a former member of the Hancock Congregational Church in Lexington and the Original Congregational Church in Wrentham. He enjoyed fishing, fixing things around the house and drawing picture. He will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him as the “Biggest Flirt” in the world.

He is survived by his children Mark W. Cady and his wife Cheryl of Little Compton, R.I., Christopher R. Cady of Mendon and Karen L. Bibby and her husband David of Falmouth; his nine grandchildren; his nine great- grandchildren; his great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceaded in death by his brother Robert Cady Jr.

Funeral Services, to which relatives and friends are  invited to attend, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1 p.m.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 4 to 8 p.m. at Norton Memorial Funeral Home.

Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Mr. Cady’s request was that donations be made to the Norton Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 70 East Main St., Norton, MA 02766.
