Obituary: Daniel J. Collier

Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Norton Memorial Funeral Home.

Daniel J. Collier, 28, of Norton, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013.

Born in Stoughton May 24, 1984, he was the son of James P. and Christine M. (Picard) Collier of Norton.

Dan grew up and was educated in Norton, and was a 2003 graduate of Bridgewater Raynham High School. He was trained as a union carpenter with Local 67, taking training courses at the New England Carpenters Training School in Millbury.

He formerly worked at Bridgewater State University, the Carpenters Local Union 67 in Boston, and at the Home Depot in Mansfield.

When younger, Dan was a member of Boy Scout Troop 12 in Norton achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in 2002.

Dan was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and creating art. He learned the technique of glass lampworking, a form of glass blowing, and made many beautiful glass pendants. Dan also enjoyed camping, reading, and doing carpentry projects. Dan will also be remembered for his creativity, free spirit and gentle soul.

In addition to his parents, Dan is survived by his sister Emily C. Collier of Norton; his grandparents George and Louise (McNulty) Picard of East Dennis; his several aunts, uncles and cousins, especially his cousins Beth and Allison Tevis and Sarah Sidlauskas. He was preceded in death by his grandparents John and Anna (Foley) Collier and his cousin Michael Tevis.

Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are  invited to attend, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton. Visiting hours will be held 9 a.m. Wednesday prior to the services at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, Dan’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the charity of your choice.
