Mark J. Cannata

Mark J. Cannata, age 44, of Attleboro, formerly of Norton, died unexpectedly at home, on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013.

Born in Boston, MA on Aug. 3, 1969, he was a son of Joseph Cannata of Boston and the late Loretta (Reilly) Giroir. He grew up and was educated in Norton.

A resident of Attleboro for the past 18 years, Mark was an avid bicyclist and a true New England Patriots fan. He enjoyed all the wonderful times spent with family and friends, and when younger, along with his family, had attended St. Mary’s Church in Norton.

In addition to his father he is survived by his devoted sisters and brothers, Diane LaVerde and her husband Tony of Louisiana, Barbara Savini and her husband Bill of North Easton, Robert Giroir and his wife Ida of South Carolina, Michael Giroir and his wife Linda of Taunton, and the late Stephen Giroir. He is also survived by many dear aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.

A reception will follow the services and will be held in the Parish Center at St. Mary’s Church in Norton.

Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers, Mark’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. Norton.

Laura R. (Fontneau) Stentiford

Laura R. (Fontneau) Stentiford,  87, a lifelong resident of Norton, died surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday August 14, 2013 at the Golden Living Center Garden Place in Attleboro. She was the beloved wife of the late David R. Stentiford.

Born in Attleboro, on Jan.15, 1926, she was a loving daughter of the late Exdras A. and Hilda L. (Fournier) Fontneau.

Laura grew up in Norton and was a 1943 graduate of Norton High School. She began her professional secretarial career at Wheaton College in Norton, and prior to retiring, had worked for over 20 years for the Augat. Co. She began at Augat at the companies Attleboro location and later moved to the companies Mansfield branch where she retired.

Mrs. Stentiford, along with her late husband David, were the proud founders of the Cameo Shop in Norton, which is still operated by her family today.

Laura’s favorite times spent were those with her family, and she enjoyed singing and playing bingo with friends. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton and along with her late husband David, had enjoyed dancing and traveling together.

The Stentiford family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff on B wing at the Golden Living Center Garden Place for all the kindness and respect shown to Laura and her family.

She is survived by her devoted children, Arthur D. Stentiford and his wife Mary Ellen of Norton and Rita S. Poirier of Maine. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Christopher A. Stentiford and his wife Jessica of Pennsylvania and Elizabeth M. Stentiford of Norton, as well as her great grandchildren, Ella and Nicholas Stentiford of Pennsylvania.

Funeral services, to which relatives and friends were invited to attend, was held on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery in Norton.

Visiting hours have been omitted and those wishing may remember Laura with a donation in her memory made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. www.alz.org/manh
