Wedding Adventures: Center of Attention

I've come to the conclusion that maintaining a blog is hard. Especially when covering a hurricane, election and other Norton news. Oh, and planning a wedding too.

A lot has happened since my last post. We are no longer having our wedding at Mt. Hope Farm, for one. The costs just kept adding up and we decided that it would best to save some of that money for a home. So our new venue is Warren Conference Center & Inn in Ashland. I know, it does not sound as cool. However, it comes with a tent and still has that rustic feel for the ceremony. 

Secondly, we may have chosen our DJ. We have yet to sign the contract, so I'll have more details about that at a later date.

Finally, we have selected our centerpieces. One of the most expensive aspects of a wedding, we discovered, can be the flowers. Many couples will spend a few thousand dollars on arrangements that will eventually wither away. I couldn't swallow that. So instead, we are having mason jars filled with brown, cream and sage colored burlap roses with some baby's breath mixed in. At the bottom of the jar I may add scraps of brown burlap as the "soil" and place a one of those battery lit candles in the bottom. A green checkered ribbon will go around the rim of the jar. This centerpiece will add to that country feel without making us go bankrupt. 

Being the resourceful bride-to-be that I am, I made a few roses myself to get accustomed to the task, then enlisted my bridesmaids to help me finish the buds. After a quick tutorial and a few glue gun burns, we finished 95 in about an hour and a half. Not bad!

For the bridesmaid's bouquets and boutonniere we may do something similiar. My bouquet will most likely be the real thing with burlap around the stems to tie it all together. 

While a wedding can be expensive, I'm glad I did some research on these do-it-yourself projects. While cutting costs, crafty projects like this will also help make our wedding unique...just like us.
