Love Stories: Karen Goodburn

Karen tells the story about reuniting with her one true love.

It was 1990, I was a student at Blaine Hair School. At break time I was usually found outside dodging smoke since I was the only one from my circle of friends who didn't smoke.  On this particular day, Chris came to visit Linda, which was pretty typical, but this time he brought a friend. And there he stood in his bright red CB ski coat, tall, dark eyes, dark hair, tall, and did I mention tall?! Chris brought him over and introduced us, I fell for him instantly.

Eddie, brought me mac 'n cheese for lunch the next day and that was the beginning of our four-year relationship. He was charming and very romantic, older than I and incredibly good looking (yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder). We had so much fun in four years, went to tons of concerts, a trip to Florida, my graduation from Blaine, Bruins games, we were practically inseparable. But of course when you're young and immature you break up for immature reasons. So after four years, we parted ways.

I thought about him every day and on the days I didnt think about him...I usually dreamt about him.  I'd bury the memory as deep as I could, for as long as I could but thoughts of him always crept back in. I went on to marry and he moved to the south.  I married and had two kids, he stayed a bachelor.

The same year my eight years of marriage ended, Eddie moved from the south back to Boston, his home town. Four months later, we reunited. I was incredibly nervous to see him again, I had butterflies the entire drive into Boston. It was love at first sight all over again. I knew that even after being apart for 10 years I would still feel the same way about him. He was the same ol' tall, dark, charming, tall guy......a whole foot taller than me.

That was almost nine years ago. We are still together. In fact..we have a daughter. We wanted to give her a name that had special meaning but we had a hard time finding something that didnt sound ridiculous. My friend Tami says to me one day, "how about Kadie, its the Ka from Karen and the die from Eddie. It was perfect. I loved it.  And so did Eddie. Now we are living happily ever after; well most days anyway!!
