Obituary: Rita M. (Roy) Mulcahy

Rita M. (Roy) Mulcahy, 87, of Attleboro, formerly of Norton, died in the presence of her loving family on Friday, June 28, 2013 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

She was the beloved wife of the late Howard A. Mulcahy, Jr. to whom she was wed for nearly 50 years at the time of his death on April 23, 1998.

Born in Norton, on Jan. 24, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Wilfred J., Sr. and Mabel C. (Vallett) Roy. She grew up in Norton and was a 1943 graduate of Norton High School.

Prior to retiring, Mrs. Mulcahy had been employed as a payroll clerk at the former Fernandes Supermarkets in Norton, and when younger had worked at Holmspray, T J Holmes Co. also in Norton.

A resident of Attleboro for the past 15 years, she was a former longtime resident of Norton, and a lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton.

Anyone knowing Rita knew that her family was the focal point of her life. She especially loved spending time with her cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A talented artist, Mrs. Mulcahy enjoyed charcoal drawing as well crafts which included sewing. Rita’s other interests included spending time at Horseneck Beach and she was definitely the No. 1 fan of the Boston Red Sox. Her family will always remember her with a smile for her exceptional cooking skills.

She is survived by her devoted children, Katy Mulcahy of Attleboro, Michael J. Mulcahy of Norton and the late Rita M. Angus who recently passed away in 2012. She was the dear sister of Barbara Pierce of Dighton, Patricia Baker of Norton and the late Marion Rich and Wilfred “Brud” Roy, Jr. She was the adoring grandmother of Shannon Callahan, Ryan and Matthew Angus, Ashley, Alanna, Elizabeth “Libby” and Jake Mulcahy, and the late Ricky Angus who recently passed away in 2012. She is also survived by her precious great grandchildren, Erin, Cal, Trinity, Rory, Coral, Maxx, Brody and Lilly, as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Her Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend,, will be celebrated on Monday, July 8, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 7, from 4-7 p.m. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
