Obituaries: Mary "Pat" P. Reynolds, David Morley Bird

The following are local obituaries for Norton.

Mary "Pat" P. (Reynolds) Herbert
Mary “Pat” P. (Reynolds) Hebert, 80, of John F. Kennedy, Norton; died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at the Epoch Assisted Living Center of Norton where she resided for the past six months. She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond “Pete” J. Hebert, Sr. who died on Sept. 22, 2002 and to whom she was married on September 30, 1950. 

Born in Providence, R.I. on July 16, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Edward Patrick and Winifred (White) Reynolds. She resided in Attleboro prior to moving to Norton more than 50 years ago. 

She was a communicant of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Norton. 

Mrs. Hebert was employed as an assembler for Sinclair Manufacturing in Norton prior to her retirement. In earlier years, she had been employed as a waitress at the former Heagney’s Restaurant, Attleboro. 

She leaves three children: Raymond J. Hebert, Jr. of Norton; Edward P. Hebert, Esquire of North Attleboro asnd his wife Betty and Patricia A. (Hebert) Hatch of Norton and her husband John; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. 

She was the sister of the late Rose V. Hebert. 

Private visitation and funeral services will be held in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth, Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. 

Children’s room available during visitation and the funeral service. 

Burial will follow in Oak Knoll Cemetery, Rehoboth. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Hebert’s name may be made to the charity of one’s selection.

David Morley Bird
David Morley Bird, 69, of Searles Road, Pomfret Center, Connecticut; formerly of Brookline, New Hampshire and Norton; died unexpectedly at the Matulatis Nursing Home in Putnam, Connecticut on Sunday, July 7, 2013 following a courageous health battle. He was the husband of Nancy L. (Denham) Bird to whom he was married on Sept. 21, 1986. 

Born in Knoxville, Tenn. on June 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Laurance V. and Alice (Morely) Bird. He was raised and educated in Peekskill, N.Y. where he was a 1962 graduate of Peeksill High School. He later attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. 

Mr. Bird was a veteran of the United States Navy from his enlistment on Sept. 6, 1963 until his honorable discharge on Jan.16, 1967 having earned the rank of Electricians Mate. 

As a computer software engineer, Mr. Bird was employed at numerous local companies including Texas Instruments, the former Foxboro Company, N.E.C. and Compac. 

Mr. Bird resided in Pomfret, Conn. for the past 12 years and formerly resided in Brookline, N.H.for seven years and in Norton for seven years. 

His greatest pride came from the accomplishments of his family members and he treasured the time spent with his family in particular attending their events and activities. 

He both spoiled and adored his feline companion, “Abbey”. 

A lover of Ford Mustangs, Mr. Bird owned “American Muscle”, a company that catered to the needs of Mustang owners by providing parts. 

He enjoyed time spent on his home computer and was a sports enthusiast particularly the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. While employed at Texas Instruments, Mr. Bird was a member of the company’s hockey team. 

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son: David A. Bird of Taunton; twin daughters: Deborah M. (Bird) Bruce, wife of the late George “Rusty” Bruce, of Taunton and Christine A. (Bird) Galhardo and her husband, Paul Galhardo, Jr., of Freetown; his wife’s children: Thomas D. Laporte, Attleboro Police Department and his wife, Joanna (Fernandes) Laporte, of Attleboro; Todd C. Laporte and his wife, Antoinette (Murphy) Laporte, of Groveland and Darren J. LaPorte of Lewiston, Maine; ten grandchildren: Ivy, Saige, Harley, Ryan, Sean, Kaleb, Rebecca, Caiden, Hannah and Emily. 

He was predeceased by his wife’s son: David M. Laporte, Jr. 

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with Veteran’s Honors on Saturday, July 13, 2013 from 9:00 – 10:00 AM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, ¾ mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. 

Funeral services with Veteran’s Honors will immediately follow visitation on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the “Memorial Chapel” of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right, ¾ mile on the left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. Phillip Goff, officiating. 

Children’s room available during visitation and the funeral service. 

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Abington Cemetery, Route 44, Pomfret, Connecticut. 

Following graveside services an invitation will be extended to join Mr. Bird’s family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the Golden Greek Restaurant, 474 Putnam Pike, Dayville, Connecticut

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Bird’s name may be made to the Dyer-Lake Charitable Foundation, Inc., a registered 501 (c) 3 organization, 161 Commonwealth Avenue, North Attleboro, MA 02760 to benefit the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Please designate which organization donations should be forwarded.
