On 12th Anniversary, Norton Remembers Sept. 11, 2001

Town and state officials gathered with community members in Norton Wednesday morning to remember Sept. 11, 2001.

Norton Firefighters, town and state officials and community members gathered at the Norton Fire Station Wednesday morning to recognize the 12th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.

"Once again, skies are chrysal clear blue like the way they were 12 years ago," Fire Chief Paul Schleicher said in his opening remarks.

Lines were drawn from Sept. 11 to recent occurrances like the masscre in Newtown Conn., the Boston Marathon and the Arizona wildfires.

"This past April, we had a close to home rememberance of the 9/11 events," Police Chief Brian Clark said, referring to the Boston Marathon. Clark asked residents to keep marathon victims in mind.

The Fire Department's bell rang in four rounds of five and flags were lowered to half-mast to remember those who lost their lives.

Schleicher and Clark were joined in remarks by Town Administrator Michael Yunits, State Rep. Jay Barrows and State Rep. Steven Howitt.

"The memories are just so vivid and its so important that we remember those today and in the future," Howitt said.
