Hurricane Irene Leaves Trees, Power Lines Down in Norton

Norton Police ask residents to stay off the road to allow workers to clear down trees and repair downed wires.

Norton Police reporting Sunday night that there are numerous trees down across town and asking people to stay off the roads as the clean-up is under way. They also said National Grid is sending 16 trucks to town to get the downed wire fixed.

An emergency shelter has been established at Attleboro High School for area residents in need.

The National Weather Service in Taunton, told Norton Patch to expect winds to taper off this evening at approximately 9 or 10 p.m. Heavy rains have passed for the area, although it is expected to rain longer
