M.B. Post Chef to Open New Seafood Spot

David LeFevre will continue to make his mark in Manhattan Beach.

David LeFevre, the chef behind M.B. Post, is bringing another new venture to Manhattan Beach this spring, he told MB Patch Friday.

Though he couldn't divulge where Fishing With Dynamite will be located, he did reveal that the 30-seat, 1,100-square-foot restaurant will feature seafood from vendors who use "sustainable seafood practices."

The restaurant's "pristine seafood" will come from "the coasts, the east to the west and sometimes the gulf," including notable spots such as Chesapeake Bay, Maine, Alaska, Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Florida and California.

LeFevre says the menu will include "handcrafted, soulful, artisanal food" and that dishes will be simple and interesting, done in a manner that lets the seafood "really shine." A raw bar with oysters, crab, lobster, sea urchins and the like will be included.

The seafood eatery will combine "east coast nostalgia with the wonderful west coast vibe," he said, and allow for an inexpensive meal with beer or a more upscale dish with a great bottle of wine.

Dear Edward, It seems you have a lot of time to think and write about this, but I feel you are fighting a losing battle. Preaching the harms of alcohol aren't going to change minds in our community anymore than those people who tote signs, hollering bible verses. Do you ever wonder why a list of the biggest party schools in the country exists, and why the schools at the top of the list are among the largest and most popular? The practice of distilling alcohol for consumption has been around since pre-historic times. Have you considered that the US War On Drugs is one of the biggest failures this country has ever maintained? Since Chief Irvine's completely overblown actions with regards to 6-Man/Surf Fest in 2012, anything she says stirs my suspicions. I'm willing to bet that the majority of those crimes with increased percentages were perpetrated by people who don't even live in the South Bay. That being said, looking for a solution to reduce the influx of non-locals every weekend is as much of a pipe dream for me as fighting a new establishments' liquor license is for you. And since you mentioned it, have you considered that the caps now being imposed in HB may be causing bar patrons to spill into MB? You actually quoted that MB ranks very low for alcohol related crimes, but that it's crime rate is increasing. I think you may have lost focus on the root of the problem by fighting a restaurant's liquor license.

Well you just go right ahead and "maximize", Doc. Why not start a temperance league while you're at it?

Dear Chef David, My friends, family and I enjoy eating at MB Post. We live in Hermosa Beach and support our Hb restaurants as well as Manhattan Beach restaurants. Fishing with Dynamite? Are you really naming you restaurant after one of the most heinous and destructive fishing practices in human history? Here are a few references which may help illustrate my concerns: http://datamanagement.reefcheck.org/factsheet.asp?surveyID=3&issuecode=iBF&display=moreinfo I hope you reconsider the name and change it. Once it does we will come eat there another wise my friends and family will not be spending our money in your new restaurant. Respectfully, Jose Bacallao

Steven Fishing with dynamite is a serious reef/environmental issue. Yes it is real and it is serious. Thanks
