Large Salad Recalls Expanded to Many Brand Names

The recalls are associated with products potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Two large companies and dozens of brands are part of an expanded salad recall because of potentialListeria monocytogenescontamination.

Garden Fresh Foods and Firms Initiate warned that a number of products, some of which were sold in Massachusetts, may be contaminated with the organism “that can cause serious and sometimes-fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," according to the FDA.

"Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” according to the FDA.
