Bites Nearby: McMahon's Countryside Grille

There’s a new restaurant in town that is making a lot of buzz. McMahon’s Countryside Grille, 336 Old Colony Road, opened July 1, and already has regulars.

 “So far it has been everything we wanted it to be,” said owner Karyn McMahon.

 This business venture is a family affair, as Karyn’s husband, Chris, and their children, CJ, Nick, Karlene and Darcey, all have a role to play. Karyn is the face of the business who deals with the behind the scenes details. Chris and Nick can usually be found in the kitchen, cooking away. CJ is a waiter and designed the menu. Karlene and Darcey are learning the ropes on how to become great waitresses.

 Family truly is the driving force behind McMahon’s existence. With a family of six, it was hard for them to go out to eat, sit together and not spend a fortune. And once they saw the building, they knew they had to jump on the opportunity to own it if it ever arose.

 “We came when it was Old Colony Creamery. We are trying to recapture that family friendly place to go,” Karyn said.

 Ways they are keeping the restaurant family friendly include an extensive kids menu, reasonable prices, booths with detachable dividers for large parties, and, of course, good food. In the fall, they also plan to introduce family style dinners to the menu.

 The menu includes homemade soups, pasta, seafood, sandwiches and more. The kids’ menu even has a steak for $5.99.

 In the mood for dessert and don’t want to sit down in the dining room? McMahon’s serves Bliss ice cream from their walk-up window. They are even looking into finding a vendor for Frosty Paws dog ice cream.

 The McMahon family has worked hard thus far in their quest to make the restaurant successful. They rearranged the pre-existing furniture from Old Colony Café, have all new equipment in the kitchen and new booths. The staff has also been instrumental in their success.

 “I couldn’t have asked for better people,” Karyn said.

She also noted that other businesses in town, such as Uncle Ed’s and Trinity, are showing their support.

 “I can’t believe how awesome everyone in this town has been. Everyone has done everything in their power to help us. It’s nice to know that everyone has our back.”

 McMahon’s is open Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant’s liquor license is pending.
