Best Of Winner: Uncle Ed's Back Porch

Uncle Ed's homemade ice cream is crowned the best in Norton.

The results of this week’s Best Of Readers’ Choice series are in, and boy was it a close one! With 54 out of 112 votes, was voted as having the Best Ice Cream in Norton.

Runner up McMahon's Countryside Grille garnered 51 votes while the Sundae Shack received 7.

“The heck with Bliss, they [McMahon’s] remind me of Bristol Farms,” said Patch reader Brian.

McMahon’s was just a step behind Uncle Ed’s every step of the way until the day before the polls closed. Friday morning McMahon’s was ahead in the poll by a single vote, but by 9 a.m. today when polls closed, their ice cream supplied by The Ice Cream Machine wasn’t enough to beat out Uncle Ed’s homemade hit. They won by three votes.

And then there’s our winner, Uncle Ed’s Back Porch, with 48 percent of the votes.

John Skurchak and Dennis Levine founded Uncle Ed’s Aug. 1, 2009. The restaurant is known for its homemade ice cream. It serves about 30 flavors, and even more during the summer. Their most popular flavor is vanilla, by far.

“It’s the best homemade ice cream,” commented Elizabeth Strojny. “I loved Uncle Ed's Front Porch when I lived in Rehoboth. I was very happy that they opened a shop in Norton.”

They also have a full menu that includes homemade items such as sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers, chicken wings and more.

Uncle Ed’s Back Porch will be presented with a certificate at a time and date to be determined.

Best of Norton Readers’ choice will be taking a hiatus. In the meantime, share your experiences of local businesses in our directory by leaving a review. http://norton.patch.com/directory
