Longing for a time gone by?

Do you long for a time when summers were slow and easy? When corn on the cob and hamburgers and hot dogs cooked on the grill were the main dinner fare?

Do you long for a time when kids would gather together for pick-up basketball and wiffle ball? When the next game of capture the flag meant even more than the new installment of Good Luck Charlie? When days were spent outdoors without any complaints of bugs and heat and sweat.

Do you long for a time when kids were happy to just be kids? Happy to include all ages and make the games fun for them too? Happy to simply play and enjoy without the promise of trophies or medals or awards at the end of the day?

Do you long for a time where moms and dads sat and sipped cold drinks while talking with friends and neighbors about everything and nothing all at the same time? When the cool breeze off the pool was the most refreshing and satisfying feeling you could ever imagine. A time before the constant demand to be ‘connected’ all the time took over the lives of young and old alike. A time to simply sit and read or relax?

Do you long for a time when kids had summer friends and when June rolled around the reconnection with those friends brought smiles as wide as Christmas morning?  When they could spend hour after hour in the pool and still want hours more?

Is it truly a time gone by? Can we only long for it? Or can we find that peace in our schedules, our neighborhoods, ourselves?
