Founder's Day Picnic Still On

Rain date June 30.

Following on the heels of a successful event in 2011, Norton Parks and Recreation announces the 2012 Founders Day Annual Picnic and fireworks slated for June 23, 2012 at Yelle Elementary School.

From 5 to 9 p.m., area residents can enjoy a local vendor food court, dunk tank on the Midway, Fire Department demonstrations, local music, games, face painting, an All-Star softball game, hot air balloon rides, hay rides, pony rides and more. The highlight of the evening will be a fireworks display. Over 3,000 people from Norton, Mansfield, Attleboro and Rehoboth are expected to partake in the festivities.

Rain date is June 30.

Plans are moving forward with securing the fireworks vendor, registering vendors and local restaurants to be there and collecting donations.

“We have not covered all costs yet but are getting closer,” said organizer Sheri Cohen.

To help raise funds, a Hat Day will be held at all Norton Public Schools Friday, May 4. There will also be a bike run at the Norton VFW Saturday, June 2 with registration from 9 to 11 a.m.  The fee is $15 per rider for the bike run and cookout and $10 per non-rider.

To help sponsor this event visit www.nortonfoundersday.org or contact Bill Lippincott at 617-513-5427 or atlippin55@comcast.net. To send in a donation, make checks payable to Town of Norton – Founder’s Day Picnic Attn: Parks and Recreation and mail it to 70 E.
Main St., Norton, MA 02766.

“We could still use more volunteers as this event takes a lot of people to pull this off,” Cohen said.

The next Founder’s Day Picnic meeting is 7 p.m. Monday, May 7 at the VFW. All are invited to attend.
