EEE Risk Level Raised to 'Moderate' in Norton

The announcement comes after EEE was found in several surrounding towns.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced Thursday that Norton is now at a "moderate" risk level for EEE.

The news comes after mosquitoes with EEE were found in samples in surrounding towns Easton, Taunton, Raynham and West Bridgewater. The risk level in those four communities were raised to "high."

"We are seeing EEE activity in mosquitoes in scattered locations, including in several mammal-biting species, so it remains very important for people to take precautions to avoid getting bit,” said DPH Public Health Veterinarian Catherine Brown in a statement. “People need to continue to use insect repellent, cover up exposed skin, and avoid being outdoors at dusk and after nightfall when mosquitoes are at their most active in the highest risk areas.”

Other towns with a "moderate" risk level include Mansfield, Dighton, Berkley, Sharon and Stoughton.
