5 Things Sept. 30: Recreational Basketball Registration, Childbirth Classes and More

1. Norton Recreational Basketball registration deadline
Today is the last day to register for Norton Recreational Basketball. This is available to all Norton residents in grades 1 through 12. Competitive recreation teams will be chosen by Oct. 19. The Instructional Program begins on Dec. 1 and runs for nine weeks with a cost of $60.  Third through eighth graders will have regularly scheduled practices along with an eight-game regular season followed by playoffs. Practices will begin in November and a champion will be crowned in February. Cost of the competitive rec program is $100. The High School League is available for ninth through 12th graders, excluding varsity players, and will consist of an eight-game regular season and playoffs. Cost for this program is $80. 2. What's in our own backyard?
Join Doug Williams, Stony Brook’s director, to walk and explore some of the beautiful places in the area. Meet at 108 North St., Norfolk at 9:30 a.m. Dress for the weather and bring your field guides, cameras, binoculars, comfortable walking shoes and a snack and drink. The group will carpool to different areas will explored during a leisurely 1½ to 2 hour stroll. Cost is $8.

3. Childbirth education classes
Sturdy Memorial Hospital's Maternity Services offers a variety of childbirth education classes to help prepare you and your partner for childbirth and parenthood. Such classes include Preparing for Childbirth, Childbirth Refresher, Introduction to Breastfeeding, Are You Ready for Baby?, Pediatric CPR and New Moms Group. For more information call 508-236-7151.

5. High near 65, low around 51
Today there is a 50 percent chance of showers. Patchy fog is expected before 11 a.m. Otherwise, it will be cloudy, with a high near 65. Calm wind will become north around 6 mph in the afternoon. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Tonight there will be a 20 percent chance of showers. It will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Calm wind will become southwest around 6 mph after midnight.
