5 Things Oct. 7: SOAR 2012, Turkey Trot and More

1. Shoe collection
Nine Lives is collecting gently used shoes. This is a fundraiser to benefit the shelter. Shoes can be dropped off at the shelter Saturdays 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m.

2. Turkey Trot registration open
Registration is open for the Turkey Trot to take place at Borderland State Park Sunday, Oct. 21. Races will run 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon. This event is sponsored by Personal Best Karate. It helps raise the funds for the community service project, the Turkey Brigade, which will feed families for Thanksgiving. The goal this year is to feed 3,000 families in need for Thanksgiving. Please stop by any school for a pledge sheet and t-shirt order size.

3. SOAR 2012
The Charles River will be transformed into an outdoor adventure wonderland today. SOAR 2012, hosted by the Boy Scouts Boston Minuteman Council, will feature 150 outdoor activities and entertainment for the entire family. The event will feature the world’s largest pinewood derby track and activities such as canoeing and kayaking, zombie first aid, Storm the Castle, robot building, video game design, archery and more. New England Revolution players will be on hand to teach soccer skills, and rock musicians and other entertainers will perform throughout the day on the main stage. 4. Complimentary medical profile cards available
Sturdy Memorial Hospital is offering medical profile cards to the community. These cards help individuals keep a current medication history and also list potential drug/drug or drug/food interactions. It is important to keep this card handy at all times so that it is available for physician office visits as well as hospital visits. It is also important to update this card when medical conditions and medications change. To receive a complimentary card, call 508-236-8800.
