5 Things Oct. 14: Yard Sale, Blessing of the Animals and More

1. Multi-family yard sale
A multi-family yard sale will be held at 106 Dean St., Norton 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will include toys, home decor, curtains, lamps and more.

2. Norton resident accepted at Coastal Carolina University
Alexandra Bishop, of Norton, has enrolled in Coastal Carolina University. For four consecutive years, Coastal Carolina University has been recognized as one of America's 100 Best College Buys in the Institutional Research & Evaluation Inc. annual survey of over 1,200 colleges and universities. 3. Blessing of the animals
In celebration of God’s creation and remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi’s love for all creatures, there will be a Blessing of the Animals at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 647 N. Main St., Attleboro, 12:30 p.m. on the church green, located behind the building.  All household pets, farm animals, service animals and shelter animals are welcome. All animals should be appropriately leashed, harnessed or crated. There will be a gathering outside for an order of Thanksgiving and blessing. A candle table will be available to remember former pets. A freewill offering will be gathered for animal rescue and shelter. The event will be held rain or shine. 4. Rep. Howitt talks job creation and more
State Representative Steven S. Howitt (R-Seekonk) addressed the Rehoboth Business Association at the organization’s Thursday, September 27 dinner meeting at Country Gardens. Representative Howitt outlined several of his legislative accomplishments in his first term including proposals for job creation, making government more responsive and efficient, tackling EBT welfare card abuse, as well as increasing local aid funding back to the communities in the district. Representative Howitt also noted that the legislature passed two consecutive state budgets without increasing taxes.

Representative Howitt also spoke about the many small businesses throughout the district he has visited with to discuss not only the challenges they face during this business climate, but the ways government can better foster an environment to help small businesses continue to expand and hire.  One of the highlights of Representative Howitt’s two-year business tour was bringing Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo (D-Winthrop) to the district to discuss the local agricultural industry with local farmers and vendors.

“As the owner of a small business, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to balance budgets, make payroll, and tighten one’s belt to keep a business running,” said Representative Howitt.  “As a State Representative, I will always be an advocate for our local job creators, employees, and citizens at the State House.”

5. High near 68, low around 56
