5 Things Oct. 12: 'Notorious,' Patrol Surge Results and More

1. “Notorious” film showing and discussion
At 10:30 a.m., Norton Public Library will be screening “Notorious,” a classic film noir title from the 1940s. A woman is asked to spy on a group of Nazi friends in South America. How far will she have to go to ingratiate herself with them? Starring Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman. This film was made in 1946, is 101 minutes and is unrated. 2. The British Invasion Tribute
The British Invasion Tribute will invade Showcase Live at Patriot Place 6 p.m. This nostalgic musical tribute spans the entire 60s British Invasion era. The show includes songs by The Zombies, The Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, The Monkees, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Mamas and The Papas and The Beatles. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased here.

3. Route 24 and Interstate 195 patrol surge results
The Massachusetts State Police have announced the results from the 10 week patrol surge executed on Route 24 and Interstate 195. Troopers from the State Police Middleboro and Dartmouth Barracks conducted a pro-active patrol campaign aimed at identifying and arresting impaired operators, deterring aggressive and distracted drivers and promoting roadway safety on Rte 24 and Interstate 195.
The following statistics are the results of this initiative.

4. Leadership transitions in Sturdy Memorial Hospital’s emergency care center
Effective Oct. 1, 2012, Brian Kelly, MD, FACEP, is the Chief of Ambulatory Care/Emergency Medicine at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kelly joined the staff at Sturdy in 1994 and, since 1997, was the Associate Chief of the Emergency Care Center (ECC). In his new position, Dr. Kelly will have overall clinical and managerial responsibility for the ECC as well as Occupational Health Service (OHS). He has long been one of Sturdy’s clinical leaders, and is now a member of the Hospital’s Senior Management team. Dr. Kelly is a proficient, board certified Emergency Medicine physician who received his medical degree from Rush University Medical College and completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center.

Brian Patel, MD has been named Associate Chief of the Emergency Care Center (ECC).  Dr. Patel is a board certified Emergency Medicine physician who joined the staff at Sturdy in 2005. He received his medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and completed his residency training in Emergency Medicine at Rhode Island Hospital. Dr. Patel will continue to have clinical responsibilities in the ECC and will assume some new administrative duties, particularly as they pertain to ongoing quality improvement.

5. High near 57, low around 30
Today there is a 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before noon. It will be cloudy, then will become mostly sunny during the afternoon, with a high near 57. Southwest wind will be 9 to 14 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.
