5 Things Jan. 21: Snow, Free Throw Contest and More

1. Basketball Free Throw Contest
The Norton Basketball Association is sponsoring a free throw contest for boys and girls ages 10 to 14 at St. Mary’s Parish center gym. Registration is 5 p.m. and the contest starts 5:30 p.m. Proof of age is required. The highest point total wins for each age bracket for both boys and girls. Winners from each age group will compete for the District Title, moving up to the Regional, State and National competition. For details, call Brian at 508-272-6004.

2. Cupboard of Kindness open today
The Cupboard of Kindness, located at 70 E. Main St., will provide food for individuals or families as often as the pantry guidelines will deem appropriate. The pantry is open the first and third Monday of each month 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more information call 508-285-3398 or visit http://cupboardofkindness.org/index.html.

3. Infant massage program registration deadline
Sturdy Memorial Hospital will be offering a free infant massage program 10 a.m. to noon in the hospital auditorium. Registration deadline is Monday, Jan. 21. This program is designed for new moms and their partners and will be led by Jean Stringham, Sturdy Memorial’s infant massage coordinator. It will focus on the techniques and benefits of massage for infants.  Tips on how to soothe and calm a colicky baby will also be provided. Parents are encouraged to bring their infants, age two weeks to 10 months old. Class size is limited and pre-registration is necessary. 5. High near 30, low around 16
Today there is a 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 4 p.m. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible. There will be increasing clouds, with a high near 30. West wind will be 5 to 7 mph. Tonight there is a 70 percent chance of snow, mainly after 10 p.m. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. There will be patchy fog after 11 p.m. Otherwise, it will be cloudy, with a low around 16. Calm wind will become north 5 to 7 mph after midnight.
