5 Things Jan. 18: Freeze Pops, 'Judas' and More

1. Yoga for preschoolers
Norton Public Library will host yoga for preschoolers 10:30 a.m. in the community room. Join Early childhood Specialist Nancy Swirka of CFCE for fun and fitness. This program is for ages 2.9 and older.

2. Freeze Pops performance
The Freeze Pops will play at McMahon’s Countryside Grille 9 p.m. This night is sure to be a sell out. They were scheduled to play on Dec. 29 but Mother Nature forced the show to be cancelled. The partiers at McMahon’s are going to show her how they feel about that by making this night a beach party. This is a 21+ night.

3. Production of “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot”
MMAS & The New England Repertory Company presents the Tony Award nominated play, “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot,” by Stephen Guirgis and directed by Mike Kiernan. The play features a cast of 21 actors  in a mock trial of Judas with witnesses that include Mother Theresa, Sigmond Freud, Pontius Pilate and many more. The play has strong adult language and themes. Performances will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. and a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20.

4.Massachusetts adds 7,500 jobs in December
The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported that the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ preliminary December 2012 estimates show a gain of 7,500 jobs over the month, for a total of 3,263,400 jobs. The December job gain follows a revised loss of 3,200 jobs in November.

The total unemployment rate for December was 6.7 percent, up 0.1 of a percentage point. Over the year, the unemployment rate was down 0.2 of a percentage point from the December 2011 rate of 6.9 percent. The three-month average seasonally adjusted total unemployment rate was 6.7 percent and the six-month average was 6.5 percent.

Over the year, December 2011 to December 2012, jobs are up 51,600. Private sector jobs are up 50,700 with gains in eight of the ten sectors. Professional, scientific, and business services and trade, transportation and utilities had the largest gains.

5. High near 27, low around 19
Today will be sunny, with a high near 27. North wind will be 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 19. South wind will be 3 to 8 mph.
