5 Things Dec. Jan. 16: Art Matters, Hatha Yoga Course and More

1. Norton Basketball Association board meeting
The Norton Basketball Association is holding an open board meeting in the Norton Middle School cafeteria 7:30 p.m. The board welcomes recommendations and is always looking for volunteers.

2. Art Matters
The art awareness program Art Matters will return to EPOCH Assisted Living of Norton at 2:30 p.m. for a discussion about the works of Alexander Calder. The program’s mission is to entertain, stimulate and educate people with and about art. This event is free and open to the public. For more information or to R.S.V.P. call 508-285-3355.

3. Hatha Yoga Course
Sturdy Memorial Hospital is sponsoring a six-week Hatha Yoga Course 4 to 5 p.m. or 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. in the Clinical Education Center. The program is open to the public. Mary Whelton, Certified Hatha Yoga Instructor will present the program. This course is designed to help decrease stress and anxiety, increase flexibility and relaxation, and enhance your overall feeling of wellness. The cost of the program is $65. Pre-registration is necessary. Participants need to bring a Yoga mat and/or towel with them to each class. For more information or to register, call Human Resources at 508-236-8850.

4. Federal benefits to be paid electronically
Beginning March 1, with few exceptions, all federal benefits, including Social Security and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits, are to be paid electronically. That’s according to a rule from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. For more information click here.

5. High near 43, low around 27
Today there will be rain, snow and sleet, becoming all rain after 2 p.m. and a high near 36. There will be a light northeast wind. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Tonight there will be a 30 percent chance of showers before 7 p.m. It will be cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 28. West wind will be 3 to 8 mph.
