5 Things Dec. 1: Hanging of the Greens, Team Lia Scagnoli Vendor Fair and More

1. Hanging of the Greens
New Testament Christian School and New Testament Baptist Church will be hosting a Hanging of the Greens service at 6 p.m. for the community in preparation for the first Sunday of Advent.  Throughout the service, the Christmas passages of Scripture will be read, carols and other Christmas songs will be sung, special Christmas readings will be shared and the sanctuary space will become transformed with seasonal decorations. Following the service, everyone is invited to the Fellowship Hall for a celebration together. If you would be able to provide a plate of baked goods call Janet Jobert at 508-369-1025.  

2. Team Lia Scagnoli Vendor Fair
The Team Lia Scagnoli Vendor Fair is noon to 4 p.m. at Lafayette Function Hall, 18 Lakeview Ave., Taunton. Come support a great cause for a family whose daughter was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer. Kids will be entertained while parents get some shopping done. There will be balloon animals, bake sale and a lot of vendors.

3. Kids Club grief program
From 9:30 a.m. to noon, Community VNA Hospice Care, 10 Emory St., Attleboro, is hosting a grief program. Kids’ Club is designed to help children ages 5 to 13 to deal with the loss of a parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, friend, classmate or other significant person in their life. Guided by experienced grief specialists, the children explore and express their feelings as they participate in activities such as crafts, fabric painting, creating memory books and sharing. A supportive and understanding atmosphere is provided along with snacks. Pre-registration is required; call 508-222-0118 or 800-220-0110.

4. State Police urge motorists against use of personal headphones while driving
The Massachusetts State Police, in conjunction with the Department of Transportation, have begun a public awareness message on the use of personal headphones or earbuds, while driving a motor vehicle.

Hands-free technology, including personal headphones, have helped eliminate the constant need to hold a cell phone while driving. But some operators have begun to use their headsets to listen to music, audiobooks and other media while driving. When you use both pieces of a headset, you are closing off one of your vital senses and cannot hear sirens or car horns.

The use of only one earpiece is acceptable under current Massachusetts law. Wearing both is a primary offense allowing police to stop and cite motorists when they’re observed to be wearing both pieces in their ears while operating a motor vehicle.

5. High near 38, low around 27
Today there will be a 50 percent chance of snow showers before 9 a.m., then a chance of rain showers. Otherwise it will be cloudy, with a high near 43. East wind will be 3 to 6 mph. Little or no snow accumulation expected. Tonight there is also a 50 percent chance of showers, mainly before 2 a.m. There will be patchy fog before 10 p.m. and cloudy, with a low around 39 and light southeast wind. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
