Norton Boys Varsity Soccer Wins 1st Playoff Game

Norton Boys Varsity Soccer Wins 1st Playoff Game

Norton High Varsity Boys Soccer started the Division II MIAA Playoffs with a win today over Sharon, 5-0.  Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, Norton jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead less than 10 minutes into the game on two scores by Jonathan Lach.

Sharon called a timeout to try and slow down the Norton attack.  The Eagles were able to put some pressure on the Norton defense, but strong play from Matt Sugar, Anthony Kennedy, Paul Murphy, and Elliot Ariola, combined with more outstanding goaltending from Joe Maia, kept Sharon off the scoreboard through the end of the half.

Early in the second half, Cody Shannon extended Norton's lead by scoring a headern off a throw-in from Kevin O'Leary.  Norton had several more scoring chances from forward Matt Bukowski before rounding out the win with Jon Lach's third goal and a powerful curling shot by Captain Matt Sugar off a corner kick.

Norton played one of it's best games of the year at just the right time.  They were able to posses the ball and keep Sharon off balance all day with quick passes and attacking defense.  The midfield was anchored by Brett Hanlon, Wayne Belcher, Matt Erickson, Noah Lach, and Jared Kahn.

Next up for Norton is a game against the Tri-Valley League champion Medway this Sunday, 11/4/12, at 5pm in Medway.
