February Events at the Norton Public Library

We hope your 2014 is off to a great start! Here at the Library we're off to an exciting and busy start to the new year. Pick up a copy of the February calendar at the library or check out our online event calendar. Below are some of the great events happening in February: 

  • Saturday, Feb. 1 The first Saturday in February is national Take Your Child to the Library Day! Bring your kiddos in between 10 and 2 on February 1st to decorate a bookmark and check out some great books (or movies or games!) Play in the Discovery Den or find a cozy corner to read. We can't wait to see you!
  • Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 10:30 AM Music & Movement: Come sing, dance and create music with Ms Marsha from CFCE! 
  • Thursday, Feb. 6 at 10:30 AM Play 'N Learn: Songs, stories, crafts and activities with Ms. Gina from CFCE. This month's theme is backyard birds! Register at the library or register online by clicking here.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 10:30 AM Valentines Storytime with Norton MOMS club. Celebrate love this month with a special holiday storytime at the library! Open to all children and their caregivers, no pre-registration required.
  • Thursday, Feb. 13 at 10:30 AM 'Studying The Civil War - My 50 Year Adventure' with Dale Julius. Dale Julius became an avid "Civil War Buff" at the age of 10 as the Centennial began in 1961. Join Dale as he shares Civil War stories from his travels and research.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 18-Thursday, Feb. 20 February Vacation Event: Let's put on a show!The children will bring history to life as we learn about Rosa Parks and her role in the Civil Rights Movement. Children ages 6-10 will learn a simple story, create scenery and props and make invitations to the show! Please register by calling CFCE at (508) 559-1666 ext. 124 or online by clicking this link.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 6:30 PM Movie Night: Two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks teams with Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass and screenwriter Billy Ray to tell the true story of Richard Phillips, a U.S. cargo-ship captain who surrendered himself to Somali pirates so that his crew would be freed. PG-13; 133 mins.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 1:00 PM Author Paul Della Valle will discuss his new book “Speaking Ill of the Dead: Famous Jerks in Boston History”. Della Valle will discuss the lives of notorious bad guys, perpetrators of mischief, visionary–if misunderstood–thinkers, and other colorful antiheroes, jerks, and evil doers from history. Book signing to follow. This lecture is offered by the Norton Institute for Continuing Education (NICE) and is free and open to the public.
  • Monday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 PM Let's talk about books! Children in grades K and up are invited to bring a grown-up and join us once each month for activities, snacks, and great discussions. Each month we'll choose a different book. Reading levels vary, but feel free to view the title on our Novelist database for reviews and reader age recommendations. This month we'll be discussing The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. Recommended for ages 7 and up, all welcome. Visit our library catalog to reserve your copy now!
