Gary Hylander presents Rosa Parks & the Montgomery Bus Boycott
On December 1, 1955 a 42 year old African American seamstress named Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat for a white man and was arrested. Her actions led to one of the most significant acts of nonviolent protest in the American civil rights movement: the Montgomery Bus Boycott lasted 381 days and led to federal anti-segregation legislation.
Join us as lecturer and historian Gary Hylander leads us through this turbulent and exciting era in American history.

More About Norton Public Library
Norton Public Library, which began as the Norton Magazine Club in 1879, became a Massachusetts corporation in 1886. Eliza Wheaton, whose painting adorns the library's meeting room, gave the library to the town. Previously located at the intersection of Routes 123 and 140, the library moved to its current location in 1991. The adjacent park opened in 1999.
