Incumbents re-elected for Selectmen, School Committee.
With 1,266 voters at the polls Tuesday, Norton residents voted against questions 2 and 3 in the charter changes and voted in incumbents. There were 745 votes to keep the Town Clerk position elected, while 724 voters also wanted to keep the Water and Sewer Commission positions elected. Question 1, which asked voters to approve grammatical errors, prohibit a town officer or official from simultaneously holding the office of Selectmen or Planning Board and a few other items, passed with 780 votes. Today is the annual Norton Town Election. If you need a reminder of the races and questions on the ballot, we got you covered. There are two contested races; Board of Selectmen and School Committee. Both have three candidates and two open seats. Tim Giblin and Bradford Bramwell are seeking re-election for the Board of Selectmen while James Dinsel is also vying for a seat. While Deniz Savas will be trying to keep his seat on the School Committee, Phillip Lynch and Christopher McMahon Jr. are running against him. Voters will also decide if the Water and Sewer Commission and Town Clerk positions will be elected or appointed. Below are the questions as they will appear on the ballot. Incumbent Deniz Savas is seeking re-election while Phillip Lynch and Christopher McMahon Jr. are vying for the two available seats on the School Committee. What I would like to see from the School Committee is for the committee to not be the "yes man" for the superintendent on every issue. Everything Dr. Ansay wanted, she got, no debate from the SC. So I would like to see new blood on the board, especially with a new school chief being brought in.   more ›

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is noon today. Completed ballots must be received at the Town Clerk’s office by the close of polls on Election Day, Tuesday, April 24. Absentee Ballots are available at the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall for registered voters who will be unable to vote at the polls on Election Day due to absence from the town during normal polling hours, physical disability preventing them from going to the polling place or religious belief. State Senate candidate Jeff Bailey (R-Attleboro) signed the Citizens for Limited Taxation "No New Taxes" pledge Tuesday. Bailey is running against incumbent Jim Timility (D-Walpole) for the Bristol and Norfolk District seat, which includes Foxborough, Mansfield, Medfield, Norton and Sharon. “I am proud to sign this pledge," said Bailey in a press release. In talking at a United Chamber of Commerce event, Senator Brown talks about the challenges and virtues of small business.
Senator Scott Brown spoke to various local business leaders at a United Regional Chamber of Commerce event Tuesday afternoon. Brown, a Wrentham resident, spoke about the importance of small business during the meeting, which took place at the Franklin Country Club. "I'm proud to be pro-business and pro-jobs legislation," he said. "The government can't create jobs, but it can create an environment where you can create jobs." He said the government must look at ways to encourage growth. "We can't get out of this mess overnight, but we do have the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world," he said. Question One was very misleading to me, and I voted incorrectly due to the fact that there was no mention of what the question actually was for. Shame on me for not reasearching the question, but I think many were confused by it, and therefore voted the wrong way!   more ›
