Data from the Warren Group shows mixed numbers for Norton in March.
When it comes to foreclosures, Norton and the state are slightly at odds. According to new data from the Warren Group, foreclosure petitions for the state dropped 82.42 percent in March 2013 compared to 2012. Total year to date petitions also dropped 52.16 percent "Overall, we're seeing foreclosures drop all over the country, but Massachusetts is exceptional in its reduction. The Mortgage Bankers Association reports that we rank 48th in foreclosures started in the first quarter of 2013," said The Warren Group CEO Timothy M. Warren Jr. "Foreclosure prevention efforts combined with a booming real estate market are leading to fewer foreclosures." In Norton, the results are a little more mixed. Norton Island for sale.
According to Trulia, the island has not been developed and has an average listing price for $321,745. In the November Town Meeting, the town rejected an article to purchase the island for $149,900 in free cash to purchase the 9.17-acre property. Currently, members of the conservation commission want to keep the property from development, but regardless there is still a private island for sale in Norton.
Charlie Kampamelas shares his story about coming to Norton.
Charlie Kampamelas first bought Mike’s Famous Pizza in Norton 15 years ago, and when he got there he changed everything but the pizza. “The people before me were making pizza for 35 years, so I figured it must good,” he said. The original owner, who was named Mike, first opened up shop in Norton in 1968. Kampamelas came over to the U.S. from Greece, and started as a dishwasher. In 1980 he bought his first restaurant in Stoughton called the Sherwood Restaurant. In 1998, his friend told him that Mike was retiring and looking to sell. “He said he was interested in selling the business. I made a deal and now here I am,” he said. Anthony Cogliano has been in the plant business for nearly all his life. His family originally started the business in 1949, at Blue Hills in Canton. “My father and his brother started a bridal horse farm to ride the trails at Blue Hills,” he said. His father started selling plants at the farm, and the plant business quickly supplanted the riding business.
