Uncle Ed's homemade ice cream is crowned the best in Norton.
The results of this week’s Best Of Readers’ Choice series are in, and boy was it a close one! With 54 out of 112 votes, Uncle Ed’s Back Porch was voted as having the Best Ice Cream in Norton. Runner up McMahon’s Countryside Grille garnered 51 votes while Sundae Shack received 7. “The heck with Bliss, they [McMahon’s] remind me of Bristol Farms,” said Patch reader Brian. McMahon’s was just a step behind Uncle Ed’s every step of the way until the day before the polls closed. Friday morning McMahon’s was ahead in the poll by a single vote, but by 9 a.m. today when polls closed, their ice cream supplied by The Ice Cream Machine wasn’t enough to beat out Uncle Ed’s homemade hit. They won by three votes. And then there’s our winner, Uncle Ed’s…

Area driving students in limbo.
Driver's Choice Driving School in Mansfield, Attleboro and Rehoboth shut down Monday, without a word to enrolled students. The only notification they received was a "Closed" sign on the door and a memo on the Driver's Choice website saying: "Effective May 14, 2012 Drivers Choice has ceased all operations. We here at Drivers Choice truly regret any hardship this may cause our customers. We will be mailing documents to all students that have been affected by the closing of our school." According to Fox 25, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation have reached out to the school's owner in order to get the records of students who need additional lessons to complete driver's education.
