Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids Edition

When I first found out I was getting married, curiosity got the better of me. It started off with "Say Yes to the Dress." Then I watched "Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids." And finally, "Bridezillas." I was horrified. What is wrong with people?

I had my own episode of "Say Yes to the Dress: Bridesmaids" this weekend, and was hoping that it wasn't going to turn into a catfight like it does in that show. In a two-parter, a woman revealed that her maid of honor and sister was getting married a month after her. It was hard enough that she felt like her wedding was going to be overshadowed, but it only made things worse when her sister began looking for dresses for her own bridesmaids. And in the next episode, she almost picked the same style dress!

The worst episode I saw involved a Maid of Honor that said next to the bride, she was the most important person in the wedding. She was a self-entitled little brat who put down the other bridesmaids, refused to wear dresses that the bride liked and had a temper tantrum in the middle of the appointment. I felt embarassed for her. Quite deservingly, she was eventually kicked out of the wedding altogether.

While I was confident that my laid-back bridesmaids wouldn't fuss, you never know. To avoid such dilemmas and still get a look I loved, I had one rule as far as bridesmaids dresses went; they had to be some shade of green. While I could veto anything I thought was truly horrendous, I wanted my girls to feel comfortable and pay for a dress they would be willing to wear in public. Although I have to say... it would be awesome to have them in Lady Gaga attire...particularly one of her meat dresses.

Luckily, I've got five wonderful bridesmaids in my wedding party; bride-to-be Grace, sister from another mother Jenn, mom-to-be Veronica, lifelong friend Kelly and Maid of Honor Cori. And now I have wonderful dresses for each one of them from David's Bridal. We are going with clover green, with three different styled short dresses. Two will be in straps, two in a sweetheart strapless and one in a halter top style dress. They looked wonderful, and I can't wait to see the look come together after the dresses have been ordered and the alterations made!

Thanks for being such great bridesmaids girls!

Does no one see the horror for a bride picking a bridesmaid dress? I wore red one shoulder at the age of 15, tho my teen ego loved it, probably not a great idea.. Then tbe puffy sleeves of the eighties in green came in, ugh, but sucked it up. You know why? It is about the bride, so suck it up
